california home + design

This 1940s bungalow that designer Stephan Jones of Stephan Jones Interiors calls his second home, sums up his his approach to design—a modern nod to the history of the dwelling. Originally from Chicago, Jones and his partner relocated to LA around seven years ago. “Because this is my personal home, I was really able to integrate my design philosophy in a way that captures my approach to design,” says Jones. “I had the luxury of living in the house for eight months before starting construction, so I could really consider what to retain and what to let go.”

The flourishing garden creates an intimate escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of LA, enabling the couple to take full advantage of California’s indoor/outdoor living. “I immediately feel relaxed when I arrive home, because I love the way we are able to live in California,” says Jones. “It’s an amazing juxtaposition to our lifestyle in Chicago where we live in a 1960s high rise with a view and beautiful sunsets.”
